Self Limiting Beliefs Will Lead To More Than Just Network Marketing Failure
Many people suffer daily from self limiting beliefs and that can lead directly to failure in just about anything, including network marketing. This is particularly relevant in the world of network marketing because there are so many people who enter the industry who haven’t yet developed or discovered their entrepreneurial spirit. So many times, people will witness the testimony from a seemingly “regular” person who has become wildly successful in network marketing. This begins to make the neurons in their brain start jumping around trying desperately to answer the question “what if?” They begin to visualize themselves doing to the exact same thing and they start formulating a plan and a list before the presentation is even complete. They are usually so jacked up on adrenaline from the testimony and the presentation that they will feel unstoppable! Yes, unstoppable until the next day when they go out to find their friends or business associates who were signing up left and right during some crazy business building fantasy they conjured up.
It happens in all areas of sales. I’ve been there myself. When I first started in sales I would find myself having rushed out of the office with a fresh list of contacts only to find myself driving around and around some office building working up the courage to enter and get slaughtered. It’s the same with network marketing. Not only can people find themselves driving around and around working up nerve to approach a contact, they also find themselves creating ridiculous scenarios in their minds which exacerbates the fear factor. How is that a person can go from unlimited power and excitement to unwarranted fear and self doubt? It’s all in their core belief systems fueled by self limiting beliefs.
Network Marketing Leaders Learn To Deal With Their Own Core Beliefs
Not all leaders in network marketing come from an area of their personal history haunted by self limiting beliefs. There are plenty of people out there with iron clad wills, incredibly high self esteem, unstoppable confidence, and competitive edges which drive them to perform at high levels in anything they tackle. Are they the lucky ones? Well, that depends on your frame of reference. If you only see what others have as something that you’ll never have, you’ll consider them the lucky ones; the anointed ones; the few. If you look at the success that others have and learn to do what they’ve done, your chances of success for yourself improve drastically.
Are leaders born or made? That is a question that comes up from time to time mainly from people who are struggling in network marketing. Let me tell you that not only is that a question that can’t be easily answered, it’s also a question that arises from the mind of a person with self limiting beliefs. If you are a person who needs to ponder this question, you probably are not doing what you know that you have to do to succeed. There are plenty of leaders in network marketing, successful ones, who have days when they just don’t want to pick up the phone and call referrals. It’s human nature. The difference is, if they decide not to pick up the phone and call, they’ll make absolutely certain that they make their daily calls the next day PLUS the calls they didn’t make today. That is a huge difference in behavior. On top of that, they don’t mentally abuse themselves for not doing the necessary work.
Start Winning The Network Marketing Game With A Positive Outlook
Only you can change your outlook on life. This is the good news. No matter what you’ve done in the past, the future can be extremely bright for you. Guard your thoughts. Become the gatekeeper of your mind. When you find yourself complaining to somebody, stop. When you find yourself thinking that everybody else can do this but you, stop. Turn those thoughts around. It takes no more energy to think positive thoughts than it does to think negative thoughts. Give yourself a break. You may be a victim of something, but this does not mean that it has to ruin your life. There are plenty of people who have overcome the most incredibly negative circumstances to win the game of life.
Whether your goal is to change you personal life, change your network marketing outcome or simply to experience more success overall, work at making yourself filter out those self limiting beliefs that have shackled you down in the past because this can lead to all types of failure.

Once you are aware of self limiting beliefs, it is amazing to see how many people have them. Actually just about everyone does. It is a matter if you are going to recognize them and take appropriate action.

That’s the hard part, Preston. I mean the part about actually “recognizing” them. So many people fail to see that they create their own destiny in their minds. Thanks for commenting.

I tell my husband to turn that frown upside down! I think that is from a commercial or something, but when I say it, the negativity lightens – a total makeover! Thanks for the post!

I love that Val! Turn the smile upside. They say it takes more effort to frown than to smile. A smile can actually change your mental outlook. It’s amazing. Thanks for your comment.

There’s a great book called “Loving What Is” by Bryon Katie. She teaches you to question your thinking.

I’m going to pick up that book Terry. I’m re-reading another good one called “You Are What You Think” by David Stoop, Ph.D. He teaches how to truly guard your mind against the negative and he goes into why the negative comes to haunt people so easily. I love your quote by Jim Rohn; it’s so appropriate.

So many people in business have self limiting beliefs. I think it’s a confidence issue and often lack of support around them.
When you think about if you’ve worked in the corporate world you’ve not only had people telling you what to do but also friends/colleagues to support (and have a gossip with).
Enter the business world and that all diminishes. That’s why it’s so important to surround yourself with a support network that not only you can learn from but also motivate and mentor you.
We all have self-doubts every so often, we’re human after all, but it’s thinking positively and a smile on your face with a cando attitude is always so much more attractive:)

You’re right Lilach. So often our lack of confidence comes from past failures or uncomfortable situations. It’s so easy to draw on that but, yet so difficult to draw on the successes. This is the struggle that many people have to overcome.

Self-limiting beliefs are a natural occurrence of the tramas and stories we have been building up in our heads over time. I love how Deepak Chopra explains the concept of ‘projecting’ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=adp61fE21Nk&feature=relmfu. You are a beautiful person Joe.

It’s amazing Suha. We can make our futures look so bleak when we project it through our past. It’s a self fulfilling prophecy that MUST be overcome!

Joe you are so right that it is one’s self limiting beliefs that gets in ones way!
I am a firm believer in self-talk and visualization as well as meditation. These are things I do every morning and self-talk I do all day long!
Best of all like you said one can change their lives and world with their thoughts and what they decide to believe in!

Self limiting beliefs are a killer Joe. I agree with you. I love your comment about they ‘would not abuse themselves’ if they did no do the work.. when you were addressing what leaders do.
Thanks for sharing.

Joe, what a terrific post. Very insightful. I love how Louise Hay puts it. “What you think and what you believe is what will come true for you. As you think your thoughts, they are creating your life before you. It’s that simple!” We must be aware our of negative thought process and turn it around immediately. This simple action will take our lives in a completely different and desired direction.

So true Penny. It’s still amazing how many people never get around to understanding this. For me, it took years, so that means there is still hope for others. Thanks for your remarks!

Couldn’t agree with you more Joe on how important having a positive outlook is. I would almost challenge someone to ask someone they admire if they have ever had to endure brief failures, and the answer is always yes. If it wasn’t for their positive outlook they wouldn’t have gotten past it!

It’s the challenges we face that really draw out the person we are capable of becoming. It’s all in the mindset of the reaction to adversity that determines our outcome. Thanks for commenting Duke!
